Spiritual & Secular Leaders
On Sunday we looked at Malachi 2:1-16, where God blasted the Spiritual leaders of God's people. We saw that Jesus is the one true high priest, and when other leaders fail - Jesus doesn't.
A number of questions were raised about Secular and Spiritual Leaders. And that's what I want to briefly touch on today.
1. Secular Leadership
I had a friend who was doing a "Secular Leadership" course at a university, and in their class, the lecturer spoke about a new leadership trend in business leadership. The new trend was called "Servant Hearted Leadership".
In the business world, the idea of "Servant Hearted Leadership" is that your aim in leading is not profit, self-promotion, results, or the sake of the company - but to want what's best for the people they lead.
This "new" trend ends up being a better form of leadership on anything they can measure. It ends up with a healthier, happier, and more productive workforce and company.
Of course - for the follower of Jesus, this "new" model of leadership is not new - but comes from our Lord Jesus Christ who sacrificed himself for those he leads (Philippians 2)
I am reminded of the words of Jesus:
25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28, NLT).
2. Spiritual Leadership
Another question raised was about human spiritual leadership now. All followers of Jesus have God's Spirit, have God's Word, and so have access to God, and can share God with others.
However - we still have spiritual leaders that God appoints. I'll leave you with the words of Paul:
17 Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit. Hebrews 13:17 (NLT)
3. Family Bible Study
