How to Listen Well

Last week I spoke about vaccines. This is an important topic - and one that a lot of emotion is attached.

My question to you is this: How are you going to treat those who are unvaccinated? Especially a brother or sister in Christ who - for whatever reason - are reluctant to get vaccinated?

We know vaccinations don't make us "clean" in the sight of God. It does not provide salvation.

We must not let the issues of vaccinations divide us. As much as we may disagree with others on this issue - we must not look down on them, treat them with disrespect, mock them, or treat them as anything other than a loved brother or sister who Christ died for.

In order to do this well - I want to urge you to listen to each other. Here's what great listeners do:

  1. Ask questions that promote discovery and insight.

  2. Interact in a way that builds them up - not tears them down.

  3. Work together at the conversation, accepting feedback, and giving feedback without attacking the other person or making them defensive.

  4. Make suggestions in a way that opens up possibilities.

When the topic is as heated as vaccinations - my suggestion is to just spend the first hour listening in order to understand and appreciate where they are coming from.

This week at Church, Moussa is rejoining us to finish our series on "Church" - make sure you don't miss it!

What are you thankful for?
In this time of stress - it's important to be reminding ourselves - and others - what we are thankful for. Hear from Rodd and the Farrar family about what they're thankful.
